Essex right-hander and Paragon client Tom Westley has been selected for the England team for their third Test. Westley has enjoyed success this summer scoring an unbeaten 106 against South Africa so will be extremely excited for his Test debut next Thursday.
Westley has been given the No3 spot in Joe Root’s team, replacing Gary Balance who has been ruled out because of a fractured index finger. He breaks up the left-hand dominated top three. Middlesex’s Dawid Malan will also be joining the 13 man squad but his chances will depend on England opting for an extra batsman.
“I appreciate everything in Test cricket is going to be another step up in intensity but I can take confidence from having faced the majority of their bowlers a few weeks ago and scored some runs,” said Westley, who scored centuries against the touring Sri Lanka and Australia in the previous two summers. “For me the key will be replicating what I’ve been doing with Essex.”
Tom has been performing incredibly well in the past three seasons, with his 1,217 runs last year key to Essex securing the Division Two title.
Malan has been chosen as the England coach saw his potential after the way he handled Morkel, Morris on his Twenty20 debut in Cardiff. The 29 year old has been a consistent performer with Middlesex, averaging in the 40s.
Paragon is delighted that Tom will be joining his fellow Essex team-mate and Paragon client in the England team as well as being delighted to see Dawid join the squad. Tom and Dawid have had to wait their turn but we are sure they will take full advantage of this opportunity.
