Tom opened the batting for Essex County Cricket club in all forms of the game in 2014 and his outstanding performances, particularly in the T20 Blast and 50 over competitions, lead to his inclusion in the England Performance Programme tour to Sri Lanka during the winter. This is reward for a fantastic season and shows Tom is very much considered to be a future England player.

Having been part of the Essex academy since he was 14, Tom went on to make his senior debut in 2007 as an 18 year old before showing he was a natural leader while captaining the Durham MCCU side and the England U19s during the Cricket World Cup.

Having completed his studies at Durham Tom played his first full season with the county in 2012 where he played in every County Championship fixture, including hitting a career best 185 against Glamorgan.

In 2014 Tom was one of the stand out performers in the country, especially in white ball cricket. Tom’s aggressive batting and big hitting produced some brilliant performances. In One Day Cricket Tom scored 344 runs at an average of 57 and in T20 scored an incredible 538 runs, including two centuries, at a strike rate of 150. It was these performances, along with some his ability to bowl some more than useful Off-Spin that lead to Tom’s inclusion in the England performance Programme.
